Project Rewards

The primary beneficiaries of this project are community leaders and decision-makers as well as the general population. This project will be useful for community leaders to see the historic evolution of risk toward displacement on a yearly basis in different areas in Tulsa County. The data can be used as a way to evaluate the effectiveness of programs or policies that were implemented during a given year. Additionally, the general population can also check the status of their own neighborhood, or Census Tract, in terms of risk toward displacement, and create a map with their own perception of risk for each of the variables that compose the DVI.

Definitions Of Success

Users are able to identify which variables influence the level of vulnerability toward displacement and are able to adjust the weight of each variable. Users can identify where in Tulsa the population might be at a higher risk of displacement based on these factors.

Project Goals

The primary goal of this project is to create an index that uses different variables that influence the vulnerability of certain populations toward displacement to be used by a variety of stakeholders in order to promote action to mitigate this problem.

Implicit Bias

Our approach was to expand the idea of displacement solely caused by gentrification because experiential evidence suggested that other variables in certain neighborhoods in Tulsa could increase the risk of displacement. These variables were related to the socioeconomic background of the population, evictions, and housing burden

Centered Perspectives

We are approaching this problem from the perspective of community leaders and decision-makers that are interested in enacting policies and programs to mitigate the risk of displacement. We would like to identify which variables are more critical for measuring risk for displacement in a given area in Tulsa County.
