School Enrollment: Preschool

Annually Education

2024

Source: Census - American Community Survey - B14003 School Enrollment Ages 3+

Denominator: Total Children under the Age of 5

Denominator Source: Census - American Community Survey - B01001 Sex by Age

This metric shows preschool-aged children enrolled in preschool. The percentage is calculated by dividing the number of children enrolled in public or private preschools by the estimated number of preschool-aged children. This estimate is described below. We used Census table B14003 to disaggregate by gender and B14007 to disaggregate by race.

Note: To estimate the total population ages 3-5, we used 40% of the value for ages 0-4 provided by the Census to exclude ages 0-2. However, this measure does have some limitations. Some 5 year-old children are still in preschool. Additionally, to calculate disaggregates, we needed to mix Census tables. Because these are estimates, the numerator and denominator of this measure may not always line up perfectly and some percentages may exceed 100%.

Mobility: Within the Same County

Annually Shelter

2024

Source: Census - American Community Survey - B07003 Mobility by Sex

Denominator: Total population (mobility)

Denominator Source: Census - American Community Survey - B01001 Sex by Age

This statistic shows the total population that has moved from one residence to another within the same county during the past year according to the U.S. Census estimates in tables B07003 (disaggregates by sex) and B07004 (disaggregates by race and ethnicity. The percentage is calculated by dividing the population that moved within the same county by the total population in the geographic area.

Note: We perceive that decreases in this number is desirable, as in increase might be tied to displacement vulnerability and less stability in neighborhoods. While this is not always the case, those are the general implications.

Educational Attainment: High School Graduation

Annually Education

2024

Source: Oklahoma School Report Cards

This metric shows the percentage of students graduating in four years. Graduation rates are calculated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education (see source details) by dividing the number of students who graduated in four years from a school by the number of students who entered the school in ninth grade or transferred in later. Students who transfer from the school to another diploma-granting school are removed the denominator of the calculation. Data is mapped based on the geographic location of the school.

Note: 2021 graduation rates are not included in the data due to reporting changes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Households: Proximity to Amenities

Annually Shelter

2023

Source: Tulsa County Assessor - Property Search

Denominator Source: Overture Maps

This score measures how close households are to key community amenities, rated on a scale of 1–5 (where 5 indicates the highest proximity).

The proximity score is calculated by finding the rate of households within a half-mile of each of the following amenity types, then combining those rates into a weighted average index:
Barber shops & hair salons, Coffee Shops, Community Centers & Libraries, Entertainment, Grocery Stores, Gym & Fitness, Museums & Art, Places of Worship, Public Parks, Restaurants, and Schools & Childcare.

We used Tulsa County Assessor data to determine the number of household units and Overture data for the locations of amenities.

School Attendance: Chronic Absenteeism

Annually Education

2025

Source: Oklahoma School Report Cards

This statistic shows the percentage of total students (enrolled in the full academic year) who are chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism refers to missing 10% or more of the school year. All data is mapped and rolled up to other geographic area shapes using school locations. The title of this statistic matches the data source.

Note: Data is not available for 2020 or 2021. During the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years, the State Department of Education requested a waiver of accountability which would amend some reporting requirements, including attendance, due to disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic. The requests were approved by the U.S. Department of Education. More information is available in the source details.
